ST Coilover for the BMW M135i xDrive F40 with parts certificate

For all those for whom the optional adaptive M standard suspension with its “Comfort/Eco Pro” and “Sport” driving modes in the current BMW M135i xDrive (F40) is too synthetic, the manually adjustable KW coilovers are an interesting retrofit option.

Advantages of the ST XTA plus 3 coilover suspension

The advantage of a suspension system such as the XTA plus 3 coilover suspension is that the slow (low-speed compression damping) and fast compression speeds (high-speed compression damping) can be meticulously preset and later even further individually adjusted. While a suspension spring, for example, usually only takes on the static tasks when driving, the suspension dampers take care of all the dynamic movements. With the XTA plus 3, the high-speed and low-speed compression forces are each set with 24 clicks in order to further refine either the ride comfort or the driving dynamics with maximum lowering.

By adjusting the high-speed and low-speed forces separately, the XTA plus 3 makes it possible to harmoniously dampen the “hard” vertical accelerations (high-speed) without having to take into account the slow piston rod movements in the compression and rebound stages, which are predominantly responsible for handling.

These low-speed force parameters can also be adjusted separately with 16 clicks on the XTA plus 3 coilover suspension. The compact valve design even eliminates the need for an expansion tank on the suspension struts.

On the M135i xDrive (F40), the tested adjustment range of the stepless lowering system is 40 to 55 millimetres on the front axle and 35 to 50 millimetres on the rear axle, according to the parts certificate.
